Tasted blind. Big and heavy and very sweet – trying hard! Voluminous with massive scale and alcohol. (JR)

Tasted single blind against its peers. The de Malle 2008 has an uncomplicated bouquet that offers honey, tangerine and quince aromas. The palate is medium-bodied and more alcoholic that previous encounters. However, there is certainly good weight and a harmonious finish with custard creams and a spicy note that emerges in the glass with aeration. This is a fine Sauternes. Tasted January 2012.
Pale gold. Tangy aromas of peach, apricot and vanillin oak, lifted by a floral element. Juicy, intense and cleanly made; rich but not thick, displaying good cut and energy and a hint of honeyed apricot. Not hugely concentrated, but an attractive, bright midweight with good finishing lift and persistence.
Freshly aromatic – citrus and pineapple. Concentrated and zesty with a note of spice (ginger?) on the palate. Lovely fresh zip and length. Mouthwatering finish. (JH)
