Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2017-2035, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is a touch of reduction on the nose of the Echézeaux Grand Cru 2011, here manifesting a scent like a new Hornby train set that later turns to hickory! It is rather off-putting. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of mocha on the entry emanating from the oak, and that coffee-tincture continues through to the end. It is harmonious and soft in the mouth, so it offers easy-drinking pleasure. You just need to abide the obvious oak at the moment.

Rich and voluptuous to the core, the 2011 Echézeaux is beautifully expressive and layered in the glass. Always the most open and giving of the Gros Grand Crus, the Echézeaux is built on pure texture and resonance. The 2011 isn't hugely complex, but it does capture the early accessibility of the year in spades.

A distinctly toasty nose of cassis, spice and black raspberry merges into more concentrated and impressively rich flavors that possess good volume and solid power and depth on the reasonably persistent finish. This dusty and balanced effort offers good if not truly exceptional quality. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2019+
