The 2009 Echézeaux is another inward wine. With time in the glass, some of the layers of fruit begin to flesh out, showing the depth I sensed when I tasted the wine from barrel. There is plenty of elegance and finesse, although today the 2010 appears to be more promising by a touch.

My tasting at Dujac was one of the highlights of the two weeks I spent in Burgundy in late November/early December 2011. I tasted through all the 2010s in barrel and 2009s in bottle. The domaine’s 2009s are among the wines of the vintage. Importers: The Sorting Table, Napa, CA; tel. (415) 491-4724; Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. (a moderate 12.6% alcohol): Good full red. Aromas of plum, redcurrant, strawberry and earth. Sweet and pliant in the mouth, but can't match the Malconsorts for mouthfeel or depth. Nicely spicy but I wanted a bit more precision. Finishes with dusty tannins. This smaller-scaled Echezeaux doesn't not quite capitalize on the potential richness of the year.
