Bottle deposit. Very dark blackish rust but black almost out to the rim. Very sweet and exotic and rich on the nose. Sweet palate entry – very flattering and powerful but with real substance to it. Lift. Pretty drying and thick on the end – almost more like a Barossa wine! Chewy end. Very distinctive. Liquorice. Second bottle much less complex but fresher. Very chewy end. (JR)

An excellent wine in what was a disastrous year for most Pomerol estates, Clinet's 1991 may turn out to be the best wine of the appellation! Its surprisingly deep ruby/purple color does not suggest the horrendous conditions under which the grapes were harvested. The bouquet of pure, rich, black-raspberry fruit and subtle oak is followed by a medium-bodied wine with surprising ripeness, richness, and an especially long finish. It is difficult to imagine the effort that went into producing a wine this seductive and rich in 1991. Clinet's 1991 should drink well for 7-10 years.
The 1991 Clinet is light but fresh on the delineated nose with scents of blackberry, bacon fat, ceps and oddly, aromas associated with white wine such as honey and apricot. The palate is medium-bodied with firm structure and backbone. The Cabernet Franc lends a lovely savory, animally edge to the finish that has good length, if not quite the peacock’s tail of flavors of a top Pomerol wine. Its dry finish is a reminder that bottles should be consumed sooner rather than later. Taken from the Pomerol book authored by Neal Martin.
