Punteggio 85/100 · Da bere 2019-2021, Neal Martin, Sep 2019

The 1999 Les Ormes de Pez is a vintage that I have not tasted before. Its appearance is more mature than its 20 years would suggest. The nose is a little diffuse; touches of potpourri and musk infuse the loose-knit red fruit, and a touch of brick dust emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin and very rustic in style, with a light, meaty finish that is missing some grip. This is rather disappointing at 20 years and should be drunk soon. Tasted from an ex- château bottle at the estate.

Meaty. Serious. Quite gentle. Open and easy (for a St-Estèphe), but never really seductive. (JR)

The dark ruby-colored 1999 Les Ormes de Pez is a lovely, forward offering, offering aromas of black currant and cherry fruit, medium body, soft tannin, and an up-front style that requires consumption over the next 6-8 years.

The Cazes family – owners of Lynch-Bages – added this Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois estate to their portfolio in 1940, just one year after they purchased Lynch-Bages. The property comprises 32 hectares of vines in the north of the appellation, close to the village of Pez.
