The 1986 Les Ormes de Pez defied my solitary encounter with this wine back in 2005 when it showed very poorly. Here at the property, it is actually fresher on the nose than the 1996 Les Ormes de Pez - wild strawberry, briary, a touch of mint as if it were mimicking its sibling Lynch Bages! The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, fresh acidity, lively in the mouth, spicy and vibrant with good persistence towards the finish. This punched above my expectations and is well worth seeking out. Tasted July 2016.

The Cazes family – owners of Lynch-Bages – added this Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois estate to their portfolio in 1940, just one year after they purchased Lynch-Bages. The property comprises 32 hectares of vines in the north of the appellation, close to the village of Pez.
