Punteggio 93+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2013

Bright ruby-red. Precise, perfumed aromas of black raspberry, licorice, espresso and smoky minerality. Sweet on entry, then juicy and sharply chiseled in the middle, with penetrating acidity giving the raspberry and floral flavors great inner-mouth energy. Finishes sappy and mouthcoating, with a positive youthful bitterness that calls for at least six or seven years of cellaring.

Bernstein's 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers is rich, deep and fleshy. The Cazetiers doesn't quite have the energy or mineral drive of the Champeaux, but is rather built on a core of expressive, intensely perfumed dark fruit. Dark red berries, flowers and spices are woven together beautifully on the soft, seductive finish.

Bernstein’s 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers is rich, deep and fleshy. The Cazetiers doesn’t quite have the energy or mineral drive of the Champeaux, but is rather built on a core of expressive, intensely perfumed dark fruit. Dark red berries, flowers and spices are woven together beautifully on the soft, seductive finish. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030. Olivier Bernstein is one of the younger generation of micro-negociants who owns no vineyards, but rather sources fruit from a variety of vineyards. In just a few years Bernstein has put together an impressive collection of wines from some of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious appellations. Bernstein describes 2010 as a vintage with a lot of millerandage (shot berries). The 2010s were vinified with 50% stems and the malos finished in July, which is fairly standard for the year. None of the 2010s had been racked at the time of my visit in late November 2011 and bottling was planned for March and April 2012. Stylistically, these are fleshy, generous wines that stand apart for their textural depth. A Becky Wasserman Selection, Le Serbet, imported by: Fine Vines LLC, Melrose Park. IL; tel. (708) 343-6702

Vey rich ripe cassis nose. Quite marked (oak?) tannins and very muscular and youthful. A long-term punt this one. Pretty tough for the moment. Lots of oak. (JR)
