A bigger, richer wine than the classic cuvee, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père checks in as close to 100% Grenache (there’s a splash of Cinsault and Clairette) that was brought up in demi-muids and foudre. It offers a downright sexy, full-bodied, seamless character as well as overflowing Provencal charm in its ripe kirsch and black cherry fruit, spice, cured meats and garrigue aromas and flavors. Drink it anytime over the coming decade.

Vivid ruby. Highly perfumed bouquet of cassis and kirsch complicated by notes of smoky garrigue and minerals. Lush red and dark berry flavors become more lively in the middle palate and pick up a suave floral quality toward the back. Finishes juicy, sweet and impressively pure, with lingering nuances of sweet black raspberry and lavender pastille. This seamless wine is delicious right now.
Deep ruby. Sexy aromas of blackberry and blueberry compote, musky herbs and minerals. Juicy and impressively concentrated, with sweet, mineral-laced dark berry flavors, supple texture and late-arriving tannins. The finish is broad, spicy and impressively pure, with terrific lift and cling.
