2006 Nuits St Georges Clos de l'Arlot

(vinified with 50% of its stems) Medium red. Sexy aromas of plum, redcurrant, iron and cinnamon. Sweet, ripe and round, with good intensity to the plum, pepper and spicy oak flavors. The young 2007 is more floral but this is more opulent and rich. Finishes with chewy but fine tannins.

(40% new oak) Medium red. Sexy, very ripe nose combines minerals, musky coffee, mocha and wild herbs. Sweeter and considerably deeper than the Petits Plets, with lovely aromatic lift and lush texture. Nicely balanced wine with sweet, palate-coating tannins, very good length and solid structure. This is 13.2% alcohol without chaptalization. Leriche likes this and Suchots best among his young 2006s, and describes them as relatively feminine in style.

Sweet, perfumed, rather heavy nose – almost as though there were some Pinot Gris in here. Lots here – masses of impact on the palate – but still a bit expensive for what it is. I’d like just a little more refreshment factor. (JR)
