Our old friend, the stablemate of Ch Calon Ségur, of which the 2009 and 2014 have been wines of the week (the wine is now known simply as Ch Capbern). In view of some varied earlier tasting notes on this wine, I will be interested to taste it now. 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot vinified in a new cuverie. It's not a silly price ... Deep garnet. More nuanced colour than many. This really does smell classy. Very juicy but with the stony background of any St-Estèphe. Softer than most vintages but definitely ready to enjoy already. Fresh and vigorous. Quite long. Nice wine, but I think the 2014 is better value. In the UK, however, you have to commit to a whole case whereas HH&C are offering the opportunity to buy by this by the single bottle. (JR)

Mid crimson. Fairly light nose. A bit of green. Lots to chew on; classic St-Estèphe. Pretty chewy end. (JR)
Vanilla-laced black fruit. Firm, chewy, very dark but needs time. Savoury, high acid, pretty hard work at the moment but should come round. (JH)
This dark ruby-hued, slightly austere, mid-weight, competent 2011 Cru Bourgeois reveals earthy, black cherry fruit, some firmness, moderate tannin and adequate purity. It is best consumed over the next 5-6 years.
