Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2014-2019, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Feb 2014

The only red presented, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines (50% Grenache 30% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah aged half in concrete and half in barrique) possesses a dark ruby color to go with smoky, toasty aromas and flavors of blackberry, licorice and wood spice to go with a medium-bodied, fresh and focused feel on the palate. Classic 2004 with its mid-weight aromas and flavors, yet excellent length and building richness, it should drink nicely through 2019.

Deep ruby. Explosively aromatic nose combines raspberry, black cherry and a hint of vanilla accented by suave oak spice. Lush, supple and very sweet, with deep red berry flavors verging on candied. Finishes on a creamy note of cherry-vanilla, with molten tannins and very good length. An utterly delicious and decidedly modern-style wine, with lots of oak but also the fruit to handle it.

Extremely dark and dense. Great sap and lusciousness. Rich intensity – definite, if slightly oaky, glamour! Neat and extremely carefully made. Very tight and rich with lots of sweetness but more focus than most Châteauneuf-du-Pape . Definitely modernist and the finish fades a little which is why I suggest drinking it reasonably young. Bottling between basic and special. (JR)

Inky violet color. Explosive, primary aromas of ripe cherry, plum compote, candied licorice, bitter chocolate and pipe tobacco are heady and utterly captivating. Remarkably dense and concentrated but has firm, fresh acids to brighten its flavors of kirsch, raspberry, candied rose, violet and rhubarb. As supple and velvety as this is, it retains superb focus and energy through the long, sappy finish. Among the most striking 2004s I tasted in November.
