Note di degustazione
The 1966 Talbot has a bucolic and perhaps feral bouquet with menthol and humidor aromas billowing from the glass. It is not intense but it is attractive. The palate has a commendable fleshiness, uncommon in this vintage with citrus-infused cherries and blackberry, hints of Provençal herbs and a finely tuned, quite tensile finish. This is a solid, thoroughly enjoyable Talbot to drink now. Tasted blind at a private lunch in London.

Age has given this wine some complexity as a result of bottle bouquet. However, this vintage did not produce a profound example of Talbot. Hard, austere, lean flavors reveal little evidence that rich, ripe fruit is hidden behind a shield of tannin and acidity. The color is light, the fruit just adequate, the finish short. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 9/84.

Quality has not necessarily always lived up to this property’s Fourth Growth status, however there have been significant improvements in recent years, with a sustainable focus in the vineyard, and new winery and cellar.
