Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2024-2034, Neal Martin, Apr 2024

The 1994 Beychevelle is one of the surprise packages of this almost forgotten vintage. It has a light bouquet with blackberry, iodine and cedar scents—simple but effective. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy texture and fine acidity. There is an almost pastille-like purity to this Saint-Julien, pretty and winsome, plus it gains depth with aeration. Who knew? It's worth seeking out. Tasted at the château.

Punteggio 85/100 · Da bere 1997-2007, Robert Parker, Feb 1997

Beychevelle, owners of one of the great terroirs of the northern Medoc, continues to produce wines that are frustratingly irregular in quality. This light to medium-weight wine exhibits a dark ruby color, and a straightforward, redcurrant-scented nose with toast and earth in the background. Low acidity, high tannin, and sweet fruit result in a good, but uninspiring impression. The 1994 Beychevelle should drink well for a decade.

Offers some vanilla, spice and fruit character, but is slightly dry and lean on the finish. May be better in 1998. 29,500 cases made. James Suckling,Wine Spectator 1997.

Beychevelle

With greater care in the vineyard and more precision in the winery, Ch. Beychevelle's star is rising. That's in large part due to the leadership of Philippe Blanc and investment by current owners, Japanese brewers Suntory and French wine group Castel.
