The 1984 Beychevelle offers a dusty nose with light tobacco and morel aromas. The palate is medium-bodied and very simple with sharp acidity. It does feel a bit hollow, though it's certainly not undrinkable or green. But there is severe attenuation on the finish.

With greater care in the vineyard and more precision in the winery, Ch. Beychevelle's star is rising. That's in large part due to the leadership of Philippe Blanc and investment by current owners, Japanese brewers Suntory and French wine group Castel.
