Punteggio 88+/100 · Da bere 2014-2023, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2014

Sweet red berries, crushed flowers and sweet spices are some of the many notes that flesh out in the 2011 Chambolle-Musigny Les Lavrottes. This silky, gracious Chambolle offers tons of class to match its understated, supple personality.

Medium red. Musky aromas and flavors of raspberry, coffee, smoky minerals and animal fur. Reasonably intense but with almost quinine-like stony acidity giving the finish a slightly tart quality. Very Chambolle but tough going today. As I mentioned in Issue 162, Bernstein considers his 2011s less charming than either his 2010s or 2012s and he will sell them after the '12s.

Deep red-ruby. Superripe dark fruits dominate the nose. At once powerful and juicy in the mouth, with blackberry and raspberry fruit flavors complicated by smoke and sweet minerality. Densely packed but a bit youthfully aggressive today. These vines are 15 years of age, whereas the rest of Bernstein's sources are in the 60 to 80 range.

Dark crimson. Quite rich and flamboyant. Sweet start and slightly drying palate but a very distinctive style. Lots of fruit and fun. Note of chestnuts. If you want something showy this is definitely for you. Firm finish. Pretty long. (JR)
