Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2018-2026, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2018

Every year, the Dugat family reserves a barrel of wine from the lieu-dit of La Marie, just behind the domaine, for their own consumption. And since this bottle of the 2003 Gevrey-Chambertin Villages hailed from that barrel, it may not be entirely representative of the overall blend; Bertrand Dugat comments that La Marie tends to produce a richer, fuller-bodied wine than some of their other parcels. This bottle is aging very gracefully, however, offering up a nose of ripe cassis, plums, loamy soil and grilled meat. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, richly tannic and intensely flavorful, showing the warmth of the vintage but not at the expense of its sense of place.

Good full red. Superripe, slightly porty aromas of black cherry, damp earth and chocolate. Fat, full and compellingly sweet, with just enough freshness to maintain its balance. Finishes with substantial palate-coating tannins and notes of smoke and truffle.

Red-ruby. Knockout Gevrey-typical nose of black cherry, minerals, coffee and game; "a bit heavy," says Dugat, but not surmuri Sweet, sappy, sexy and full; large-scaled and fat for this cuvee Finishes with sweet, fine tannins. A major mouthful of Gevrey fruit.

Distinctly ripe and almost jammy aromas that are still obviously pinot-based and while the structured flavors are quite firm, they are not hard and culminate in a chewy but rich and punchy finish. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan, 2006
