According to my records, I did not taste the 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Village at the domaine, but it is turning into a lovely wine. Here, it has a generous bouquet with quite flamboyant red cherry and fresh strawberry scents that oozes Pinote. The palate is sensual in the mouth with soft tannins, a fine line of acidity and a very natural, nigh irresistible, finish. Lovely. Drink now-2017. Importers: Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel. Taupenot Merme's 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin is all about grace and weightlessness. Here the aromas and flavors are finely cut, chiseled and crystalline throughout. The Gevrey shows a level of pure transparency the other village level wines don't have. A long, persistent finish punctuated by bright notes round things out nicely.
Light crimson. Light nose and quite silky textured. Very sweet start and a little candified. Light, flirtatious, not the depth of some Gevreys. But clean and brisk and pleasant enough. (JR)
A restrained and slightly cooler nose presents notes of wild red berries, earth and a whisper of animale character. The detailed, pure and punchy medium weight flavors exhibit a noticeable mineral streak on the balanced and lingering finish where the supporting tannins are not quite as ripe. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014.
