Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2012, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Aug 2012

The 1997 Pingus displayed the same herbaceous note that was noted in its youth by Robert Parker and with age it is simply part of a rather dour bouquet that lacks the joie-de-vivre one finds on other vintages. The palate is nothing to really be ashamed of, but it lacks excitement and ambition. If I had any bottles in my cellar, I would enjoy what you get out of them now, as I suspect they are best their best. Drink now.

Full dark ruby-red. Less obviously ripe nose features black cherry and beefsteak tomato. Possesses less weight and flesh on the palate, and thus gives an impression of higher acidity than the '98. Juicy, smoky and vinous. Finishes with sneaky length; the tannins dust the front of the tongue. Sisseck did a light extraction in '97 to avoid green tannins.
