Quite closed on the nose though it opens up to show some spiced cassis. Firm tannins starting to melt giving a chocolaty texture. Pretty good length. (JH)

A chunky, monolithic style of wine with moderately high tannin, a dark ruby/purple color, good fruit, and a ruggedly constructed personality, the 2004 Dauzac lacks charm and finesse. Give it 1-2 years of bottle age, and drink it over the next 5-10 years.
Very perfumed and appealing on the nose. Then pretty chunky tannins and not much lift. (JR)
Really rather luscious and magnificent on the nose with some vegetal notes. A lovely shine to the wine. Very well balanced – quite savoury in a yeast extract kind of way (umami?!). Very, very slightly green tannins but otherwise excellent. (JR)

There have been many changes here over the past few decades – from changing rootstock and restructuring the vineyards, to an ever-smaller selection for the Grand Vin, making Dauzac an estate to watch.
