Dried fruit, rose petal and tobacco on first opening, followed by a hit of pure liqourice. There are fruits here too, brambled blackberry and raspberry with spiced ciammon. The aromatics feel more evolved than the palate, where there is lashings of freshness, and a lightness of touch that speaks of the limestone soils - give it time in the carafe to allow all of this to come together, and to allow the spice notes to rise. Ready to drink but with plenty of life ahead. I suggest a long carafe of three hours, but keep it cool until just before serving. The estate was 1.45ha in 2005, and it was owner Benoit Trocard's 3rd vintage. 100% new oak, Michel Rolland consultant.

The 2005 from Clos Dubreuil (a micro-estate owned by Benoit Trocard) offers floral blueberry and black raspberry notes, a hint of white chocolate, full-bodied opulence, stunning richness, and sweet tannin. It is a classic, accessible, and prodigious 2005 to drink now and over the next 12-15 years.
Mid crimson. Sweet simple fruit on the nose. Big and a bit thick. Quite pleasant in a modernist way – the oak is a bit obvious. Very chewy finish. Bit too much like a dark chocolate bar. (JR)
