Showing a tightly wound personality, the 2005 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc has toasted almond, white flowers, a little floor wax and lemon curd aromas mixed with lots of crushed stone and mineral notes. The palate is medium bodied with a tight, compact feel that fleshes out on the finish. Still fresh and enjoyable, I'd opt for drinking these now or in 5 to 7 years.

The 2005 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape blanc, a blend of 80% Roussanne and 20% white Grenache fermented 80% in tank and 20% in barrel, has exuberant notes of honeysuckle, rose water, and hazelnuts. Light gold. Full-blown tropical and citrus fruits on the nose, with a sexy white flower quality. Impressively fresh and poised, with mineral notes bracing ripe pineapple and orange flavors. A sweet suggestion of honey lingers on the juicy, round, very long finish.
