Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2012-2019, Robert Parker, Oct 2012

The 2010 La Nerthe Chateauneuf du Pape blanc is sensational, one of the best regular cuvees of this white I have tasted, with hints of honey interwoven with orange marmalade, rose petals, lychee, sweet citrus and spice. Full-bodied, with good minerality, terrific acidity, and a penetrating, full-throttle mouthfeel, this is a big, luscious white to drink over the next 5-7 years. Readers should realize that neither the luxury cuvee, the white Chateauneuf du Pape, La Nerthe Clos de Beauvenir, not the sensational top red cuvee called Cuvee des Cadettes were produced in 2011. The seriousness of La Nerthe is evidenced by the introduction of a second wine in order to preserve the integrity and exquisite quality of their top cuvees. Their new red, the Chateauneuf du Pape Les Granieres, is primarily a blend of nearly 50% Grenache and almost equal portions of Mourvedre and Syrah, with a touch of Cinsault, aged largely in old wood foudres, but with some of the Syrah and Mourvedre components in small barrels. Similarly styled yet more serious in stature, the 2010 Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc (aged ~30% in barrel) is a gorgeous white that continues to shine. It is beautifully complex and interesting on the nose, with honeyed minerality, citrus, and ripe peach aromas all soaring from the glass. Every bit as good on the palate, this medium to full-bodied white has superb concentration, a full, focused mouth feel, and juicy acidity that shines on the finish. It can be enjoyed over the coming decade or longer.

(40% each of grenache blanc and roussanne and 10% each of clairette and bourboulenc): Light gold. Fresh pear, pineapple and nectarine aromas are complicated by notes of honey and lemon zest. Spicy and precise on entry, then more plump in the middle, showing an array of orchard and pit fruit flavors. Fresh and tight on the spicy, lemony finish. I like this wine's blend of richness and vivacity.
