The 2005 Viñedo Chadwick is from a typical year in Maipo Alto when the emphasis at the vineyard was still very much on ripeness. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 18 months in new French barrels. It’s garnet red with a terracotta sheen. A liqueur-like nose of ripe blackberry and jam while the oak contributes caramel and cedar aromas. In the mouth, it’s ripe and broad with an olive backdrop and slightly dry tannins that are lent energy by the warm balance one gets from this style of wine.

Tasted blind. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Pure, very ripe and a little Ribena like on the nose... Very rich indeed – lovely layers of opulence – though definitely non classic. Sweeter than classic. And just a little angular on the finish, but very well made. (JR)

The 2005 Vinedo Chadwick offers up a spectacular bouquet of pain grille, mineral, spice box, leather, black currants, and blackberry. Elegant on the palate with layers of savory flavors, the wine beautifully conceals enough tannin to evolve for a decade. However, because of the wine’s great balance, superb concentration, and succulence, it can actually be enjoyed now. Its prime drinking period will be from 2015 to 2030.
