The 2004 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru feels only slightly stemmy on the nose, as many red wines are wont to do in this infamous vintage. The palate is actually much better, with ferrous red fruit, fine balance and just a touch of tomato vine. There is a little VA on the finish, but otherwise, this lovely Cros Parantoux is drinking perfectly now.

Good full red; slightly hazy. Expressive, somewhat sauvage aromas of leather and smoked meat. Broad but a bit funky, with the leather and game qualities joined by a whiff of the barnyard. Not fat but there's decent texture here. But this does not seem to be squeaky-clean and finishes with a dry edge.
Moderately saturated medium red. Quite reduced on the nose. The sweetest, fattest and fullest of these wines but less pure than the Echezeaux and Beaumonts, with strong notes of smoked meat. In a stricter, more tannic style. Hard to assess today. A sample from a new barrel showed a more exotic fruit character accompanied by granular tannins. Rouget made just two barrels, vs. a normal seven, owing to oidium.
