Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2014-2019, Robert Parker, Aug 2014

A rich, concentrated, still vibrant and vigorous wine, this beauty from Julliette Becot reveals lots of black currant and black cherry fruit, a fat, fleshy mouthfeel, a supple texture, and a pure, rich finish with everything in balance. It should continue to drink well for another 4-5 years.

Full, deep red. High-toned, pure aromas of cherry, currant and flowers. Sweet, fat and superripe, with deep flavors of red fruits, chocolate liqueur and sweet oak. This began a bit plump and exotically sweet but with time in the glass showed much more shape and freshness without any loss of fat or richness. Finishes with big, ripe, slightly dusty tannins. This was clearly the breakthrough vintage for Juliette Becot's Cotes de Castillon property, which is situated on a clay and limestone plateau.

Saturated ruby-red. Dark berries, violet, licorice, bitter chocolate and roasted oak on the nose. Densely packed, sweet and flavorful, with dark chocolate, mineral and violet flavors enlivened by surprising acids. A solid midweight with no sensation of heaviness. Finishes with a strong bitter chocolate flavor and very good grip. My sample of the 2002 offered good flavor intensity but came across as distinctly herbal and green. All indications are that Juliette Becot has taken this Cotes de Castillon wine to another level in the past couple of vintages.
