Note di degustazione
The 1967 Ausone was one of the pleasant surprises of the tasting although that was not totally unexpected because the wines proved much better on the Right Bank than the Left Bank this year. It has a fascinating, well defined bouquet with blackberry, leather and camphor, touches of black truffle emerging with time. You have to commend the vigour here after more than half a century. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and impressive density. Fresh and lively, yet unapologetically 'old school,' it displays fine length with a savoury, meaty, desiccated orange peel finish that completes a very decent 1967 Saint-Émilion. Tasted at the Ausone vertical in London. (NM)

A diluted, insipid bouquet is followed by a wine with bland, washed-out flavors, and significant browning to the color. Although not a complete failure, it is extremely disappointing. Last tasted, 9/83.
