Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2018-2034, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Sep 2015

More ripe, rounded and sexy than the 2010, the 2009 St Joseph Ste Epine is a total blockbuster that offers sensational notes of black raspberries, licorice, smoked meats, olive and graphite. Big, rich, textured and concentrated, with ample tannin, it's marginally approachable now due to its wealth of fruit, but will be even better in 3-4 years and drink well through 2034. The elevage here was the standard 40-50% new French oak, but it's absorbed every trace of oak. This terrific wine is one of the greatest St Joseph's I've tasted.

Saturated ruby. Red berry preserves, cherry-vanilla and anise on the intensely perfumed nose. Sappy and broad, offering pliant raspberry and cherry flavors and suggestions of coconut and candied violet. In a distinctly exotic style and very primary right now. Finishes sweet and very long, with resonating vanilla and spice notes.

Deep ruby. Complex, intriguing bouquet of candied red fruits, botanical herbs, fruitcake and a touch of vanilla, with a sexy floral overtone. A dense, sappy midweight that offers supple raspberry and cherry flavors and no rough edges. The finish is very long, with lingering sweetness and an echo of dried violet.
