The 2008 Vieux Château Mazerat is a rock star effort that plays with the big boys in the vintage. Full-bodied, deep, rounded, and opulent, it offers tons of meaty dark fruit, currants, and smoked herb aromas and flavors. It’s mature yet youthful and should easily continue drinking brilliantly for another 10-15 years. Bravo to the talented Jonathan Maltus, who has a knack for producing rich, opulent wines that deliver incredible amounts of pleasure in their youth yet also age gracefully.

The debut vintage under Jonathan Maltus, the 2008 offers sweet black cherry, black currant, licorice and graphite characteristics in a layered, deep wine. Building incrementally on the palate, it exhibits impressive purity, richness and length. Acids are there, but the wine is forward, supple and ideal for drinking now and over the next 10-12 years.
