Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2017-2027, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2017

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Le Gay has a slightly smudged bouquet of mulberry, singed leather and hung game notes, seeming to have dispensed with some of its energy since I last tasted it. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin and certainly has more to offer than the aromatics: small dark cherries, sage, marmalade and truffle emerging towards the finish. It begins in modest fashion but finishes with some aplomb. Tasted February 2017.

Punteggio 16/20 · Da bere 2014-2022, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Feb 2017

Mid garnet with soft ruby rim. Lifted and cedary/leafy on the nose, with pepper too. Really woody (not oaky). Honest, chewy texture with the fruit core to balance. Some chocolate-like sweetness on the finish. Gentle and compact. (JH)

Slightly dull crimson. Attractively mellow nose. Some combo of chocolate and green leaves on the palate. Classic stuff that’s already fun to drink. But relatively light bodied. (JR)

Good medium ruby. Perfumed, very ripe aromas of blackberry, black cherry, licorice and violet. Sweet and dense on entry, then pliant and spicy in the middle, with good stuffing to the dark fruit flavors. Finishes with good cut and grip.

Chateau Le Gay

There’s been lots of change at Ch. le Gay since the Parent family arrived in 2002 – with vineyards replanted, the cellars renovated and the winemaking adjusted. No surprise, perhaps, that quality is now higher than ever.
