Ruby and slightly sludgy but full of fruit and some sweetness. Fresh and lively and a bit of a miracle considering the combination of sweetness and age. Not much persistence though. (JR)

The wines of this famed domaine, long known for its classic old style burgundies, do indeed improve with cellaring. The Domaine Roumier made some of the finest 1988s and their 1990s range from excellent to outstanding. The Chambolle-Musigny is well-made, with surprising intensity, a lovely floral, berry-scented nose touched gently by toasty oak, and a long, smooth, attractive finish. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Importer: Chateau and Estates, New York, NY.
