The magnum of 1988 Chambolle-Musigny Village, which was matured in just 8% new oak, includes fruit from Les Cras and Combettes that were later bottled separately. Maybe that explains this riveting Chambolle. Attractive dark berry fruit, loam, wild mint and wilted rose petals adorn the nose. Still vigorous. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, real harmony and tension with a pinch of white pepper towards the finish. This is a delight. Tasted at the Roumier 1988 dinner at Noizé.
