2011 Chambolle Musigny

Light ruby. Dense and with rather glamorous, plumped-up fruit. Very marked acidity and tannins – not a typical 2011! (JR)

(this and the following wines are from the Moine-Hudelot vineyards that Patrick Landanger purchased in 2008): Dark red. Black raspberry and mocha aromas show less thrust than the Pousse d'Or wines from the Cote de Beaune. Ripe and chocolatey in the mouth, but with modest depth and nuance to the black fruit and licorice flavors. Finishes with slightly drying tannins and limited sweetness.

An exceptionally pretty if distinctly restrained nose of spicy wild red berry fruit aromas is trimmed is very subtle hints of spice and wet stone. There is excellent volume for a villages level wine with equally good mid-palate density, all wrapped in a saline, balanced and attractively persistent finish. This is very Chambolle in character and is worth considering. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2017+
