Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2000-2015, Robert Parker, Feb 2000

Abadia Retuerta introduced a new cuvee in 1997, the Cuvee Lapsus. Made from equal parts Merlot, Syrah, and Petit Verdot, this unfiltered wine was made from extremely low yields of 18 hectoliters per hectare. Only 150 cases were produced, approximately one-third of which will make it to America's shores. The grapes were vinified together, and the resulting wine is one of considerable intensity, concentration, and color. Notions of blackberries, chocolate, melted asphalt, and flowers jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, opulently-textured, gorgeously-proportioned offering. The acidity is present, but low, and the wine is concentrated, fleshy, and seamless. Interestingly, malolactic fermentation was done completely in new French oak. Enjoy this beauty over the next 10-15 years. Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates From Spain, Dedham, MA; tel. (781) 461-5767

Full ruby. Meatier, more liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant, minerals, espresso, clove and exotic spices. Sweet, thick and deep, with a firm core of superripe fruit and spices. Finishes fairly long, with a touch of youthful austerity and a faint minty greenness.
