Punteggio 17/20 · FINE+RARE

Sweet and plummy on the nose. And again very expressive, and clearly from the Vosne side of Nuits. Creamy, quite prominent and well-managed oak. This will keep well.

Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2014-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Chaignots 2011 has quite a tart nose with Morello cherries, redcurrant and cranberry leaf, underneath which is some clear stem addition that lends a touch of herbaceousness. The palate is medium-bodied with quite robust tannins. There is a tight ball of sappy red fruit here, yet the finish seems a little compact and needs to develop more persistence in bottle.

Here too the nose displays a lavish application of wood that presently dominates the otherwise ripe and fresh dark berry fruit, spice and pungent earth aromas. There is good ripeness to the supporting structure underpinning the velvety, round and delicious flavors that terminate in a moderately bitter finish from the wood toast. Whether it will dissipate in time is an open question but even if it does this is likely to be forever marked by the oak. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2018+
