Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2015-2032, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Chaignots from Faiveley has a well-defined, quite lively and vigorous nose that is brimming with red cherries, fresh strawberry and pomegranate aromas, the mineralité simmering just below the surface. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannins that lend it a fleshy texture. This feels natural and refined, lingering long in the mouth and concluding with a harmonious, svelte finish. This is very sophisticated and beautifully crafted.

Bright medium red. Pungent, high-pitched scents of raspberry, blood orange and menthol, plus a touch of new oak. Subtly intense red berry flavors are accented by pepper and herbs. Round in the middle but tangy and precise too. Finishes with good juicy cut and length.

Quite a bit of oak at first, which dominates the finish too. Even for fans of oak, this seems to get in the way a bit. (RH)

(25% vendange entier; from vines in excess of 50 years of age, according to Bernard Hervet): Good deep red. Sexy aromas of black raspberry and dried rose complicated by game and leather nuances. Complex, concentrated and quite dry, with tangy raspberry fruit complemented by saline and smoky notes. Tasty, firmly made wine, finishing with very good length and subtle tannins that coat the front teeth.
