The 1988 Poujeaux is a beautiful wine, superior, in my opinion, to both the 1989 and 1990. The oaky, classic, curranty bouquet exhibits both intensity and ripeness. The wine offers plenty of toasty new oak, medium body, good acidity, excellent depth and definition, and firm tannins in the finish. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005.

Aromas of coffee and dark berries, with a hint of prune. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a tobacco, chocolate and berry aftertaste. Drying out a little now, but very pretty.¿'88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Drink now. 20,000 cases made. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2009

The Cuvelier family, which also owns Clos Fourtet, purchased this estate in 2008. It is one of the stars of the appellation, renowned for producing wine that is well above the standard of its neighbours.
