Note di degustazione
The stunning 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre aged 50% in tank and 50% in small barrels) is a classic. Sexy, full-throttle notes of black cherry liqueur intermixed with new saddle leather, nori (the seaweed wrapper used in sushi restaurants), licorice, and spice box soar from the glass. Full-bodied, with great density and layer upon layer, this is a sexy, opulent/voluptuous wine with remarkable concentration, fabulous equilibrium, and no sense of heat from the unusual vintage. Drink it over the next 12-15 years as it should prove to be long-lived. Importer: Elite Estates, Braintree, MA; tel. (781) 348-8000 and Wine Adventures, W. Des Moines, IA; tel. (515) 222-0866

Dark red. Wild berries, dried rose and smoked meat on the intriguing nose. Inky, concentrated flavors of berry liqueur, fruity black pepper, smoked beef and garrigue build with air, gaining in sweetness and breadth. Lovely, old-school Chateauneuf that will be wonderful at the table in a few years.
