Punteggio 95/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2011

A blend of 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier (the Shiraz was crushed on top of the Viognier, which had been lightly pressed for blending in the RunRig), the 2007 Torbreck Descendant is a beauty. Aged for 18 months in 2 ½ year old French oak, the wine displays a vibrant, energetic profile with smoky black fruits, blood, aged meat, and violets aromas and flavors. This is followed by a full bodied, gorgeously texture and balanced wine that delivers loads of fruit, a seriously concentrated mid-palate, and a very long finish that highlights ripe, polished tannin. As with this estates other ’07 Shirazes, it can be consumed now, or cellared for 5-8 years.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2013-2027, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2009

The 2007 Descendant is composed of 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier sourced from a single vineyard. Super-fragrant with a floral lift from the Viognier component, it gives up exotic scents of smoke, bacon fat, Asian spices, and wild blueberry. Voluptuous on the palate with loads of succulent fruit (a rarity in this challenging vintage), it has impeccable balance and 4-6 years of aging potential. It will be at its best from 2013 to 2027. (92% shiraz and 8% viognier) Inky ruby. Explosively perfumed nose displays scents of dark berry preserves, kirsch, sassafras, violet and black olive, with a suave vanilla undertone. Broad, chewy blackcurrant and mulberry flavors are framed by velvety tannins and energized by spicy mineral and cracked pepper notes. Juicy and sweet but solidly built, with strong finishing lift and urgency. Really hangs onto the palate, leaving floral and spice notes behind.
