Musky aromas of dark berries, espresso, mocha, woodsmoke and mint. Supple, sweet flavors of red fruits, cassis, smoke, tobacco and mocha. Finishes with rather fine tannins that seem riper than those of most 2002 Pomerols, but also good grip. (Christian Seely says that these tannins are riper than those of the 2001 Petit Village

Healthy, purplish crimson with a slightly weak rim. Very light nose. Loose. Sweet. Some top-quality oak in the background, but not exciting. (JR)
Medium red-ruby. Aromas of berry jam, licorice and woodsmoke. A nicely concentrated midweight, with a pliant texture but also a slight green streak. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and good sneaky length.
A formless, dark ruby/plum-colored wine, this 2002 behaves like a monolith. Plump cherry fruit is present, but the wine is dull and formless. We’ll see how it turns out with another six months of cask aging. I noted extreme irregularity between barrel samples.
