Black! Intensely fumy with some tobacco notes. Quite exotic. Very dry on the finish though – seems rather disastrously over oaked. Very rasping tannins at present. (JR)
Mid crimson. Mid ruby. Straightforward and unctuous and at last – smooth and silky, fresh and fruity. Nice straightforward, if not terribly ambitious, stuff. (JR)
Somewhat formulaic, this 2001 Pomerol exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, plenty of new oak, and ripe fruit, but it appears to lack soul. Medium-bodied, with moderate tannin, a sweet palate, but little complexity, perhaps more will emerge with additional bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2013.
