Very good dark red-ruby color. Expressive, sauvage aromas of coffee, licorice, mint, coffee, pepper and pungent oak. Similar in weight to the '97, but the berry-dominated flavors are cooler, suggesting earlier harvesting. Complicating notes of woodsmoke and leather. Finishes with slightly dry tannins and a whiff of damp earth.
