2010 Bourgneuf Vayron

Showing better than it did from barrel (thankfully), this wine has a nice hint of camphor, damp earth, licorice, truffle and spice box. There is some mulberry and black fruit, and the wine has a certain minerality, but again, it comes across as slightly chunky, muscular and masculine. The tannins argue for giving it 4-5 years of cellaring and drinking it within the following 10-12 years.

The Vayrons' Bourgneuf. A really successful 2010, pehraps thanks to the vineyard's heavy clay content. Notably darker than most Moueix Pomerols. Rich but fresh nose. Lively and together and racy, with the Pomerol concentration. Focused. Real floral vitality. Long too. Most beguiling, in a more hedonistic register than most Moueix 2010 Pomerols. Smooth and rich and very nicely polished. Fine tannins. Lots of pleasure, even if a bit chewy for the moment. (JR)

This deep purple coloured wine is full-bodied with densely packed flavours. Although the aromatics are gorgeous, the palate is austere and will need several years for the tannins to soften and be approachable. It is a full-bodied, very compact, dense style. Jeannie Cho Lee MW asianpalate.com
