Punteggio 89/100 · Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

The 2011 Pouilly-Fuisse Clos Sur la Roche has a well-defined, mellow, cohesive bouquet with scents of lime flower, quince and honeysuckle. The palate is fresh on the entry with a lovely citric thread. There is impressive tension here although it needs to develop a little more persistency on the finish. Otherwise, this is an attractive wine. A word to winemakers: leaving your dog to conduct a tasting is not advised. Turning up for my appointment chez Saumaize-Michelin, all I found was a deserted winery and the family’s canine. Asking him where masters Roger or Christine Saumaize might be, he replied that they most probably confused the days because?well?you know what these biodynamic winemakers are like?always looking up at the moon and the stars. The dog asked whether I would be interested in a game of fetch. I politely declined and requested him to pass on a message that we all make mistakes like this, including myself on several occasions, and that they should not worry because their wines had performed very well during my blind tastings. There was one weak link in the chain however. Importers: Atherton Wine Imports, Atherton, CA; tel. (650) 328-6639, also through Raeburn Fine Wines in UK.

Calcareous site. Pure, ripe citrus. Even very slightly tropical (pineapple). But a little smoky too. Creamy on the palate with a much tighter, leaner profile than I expected from the nose. Tight, fresh stony length. (JH)

Once again, reduction renders the nose impossible to accurately evaluate. The round and suave medium weight flavors possess a silky mouth feel as well as fine intensity before terminating in a tightly knit, dry and mineral-infused finish. This is really quite impressive and the name certainly telegraphs the pronounced stoniness. Worth considering. Tasted: Sep 10, 2012. Drink: 2016+
