Tasted blind. Orange-gold. Light nose with some botrytis character lurking underneath. Big and broad. Could do with a little more freshness. But it does the business, in quite an alcoholic way, for now. (JR)

Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey has a slight chlorine-like aroma in the glass, married with vanilla pod, dried honey and apricot scents that gather pace with time. The palate is harmonious and refined with good acidity, a little waxy in texture with hints of marzipan infusing the honeyed fruit. Yet it just seems to dip prematurely toward the finish and does not deliver the requisite complexity the aromatics deserve.
Simple, sugary nose. A bit hot and fat. But some classic structure too. (JR)
Good medium golden yellow. Strong nutty, spicy, vanillin oak and marzipan currently overshadow pineapple and orange peel on the nose. Then a bit youthfully disjointed in the middle palate, combining sweet, fruit-driven peach with a slightly aggressive note of very ripe pineapple and substantial oak spice. But the fruit here is thick and strong, and the finish is fresh.
