Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2024-2030, Neal Martin, Dec 2024

The 1997 Trotanoy is actually showing better than the 1996 at the moment. This is open-knit on the nose, displaying more red than black fruit, laced with black truffle and smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with a tertiary entry and fine acidity. Considering the vintage, there is a decent amount of concentration. This is not a complex Pomerol, yet there is harmony and gentle but insistent grip on the finish. This is drinking perfectly now. Tasted at the Pomerol dinner at Cornus in London.

Jerusalem-like: green and pleasant on the nose, rather quick on the palate, bit of savoury spice on the finish and decent persistence, but lacking a bit of flesh. This is what used to be nicknamed lunchtime claret, I believe. (RH)

This wine is an atypically structured, rich, powerful wine for the vintage, with hard tannin in the finish. Ripe and medium-bodied, with surprising depth as well as copious quantities of plum, cherry, currant, truffle, herb, and earth aromas and flavors, this effort requires 2-3 years of cellaring, but it should age for 12-15+ years.

A fine and silky red with extremely attractive berry and tobacco character. Medium-bodied, with a caressing finish. A beauty. Drink now through 2004. – James Suckling , Wine Spectator 2000
