Darker colour again and a little more lively mousse than the previous two vintages. Very expressive, deep nose with plums and crushed flowers, opens up nicely on the palate and seems to be quite mature, expressive, with good balance and nicely soft acidity, again very long on the palate.

Polished, lush and instantly quite aromatic, with a strong, brioche, flower and strawberry character, roasted apples and spice eventually make an appearance as well. Clearly, this is a very good wine, in a nice flamboyant style, but I do not see the value here, as I\'ve had much better Champagnes for a fraction of the price. 96 Points
The 1998 Brut Clos d'Ambonnay appears to have arrived at an early plateau of maturity. Hints of white truffle, orange peel, licorice, honey and roasted almonds are woven together in a super-appealing mélange of aromas, flavors and textures.
Krug’s 1998 Clos d’Ambonnay is in a different league entirely, with far greater mid-palate richness and overall depth. This may be the best bottle of the 1998 Ambonnay I have had. Tonight, the 1998 is hauntingly beautiful.
