2000 Jacquesson

The 2000 Brut Millesime is warm, rich wine loaded with fruit. A blend of 50% Chardonnay (Avize Champ Cain) and 50% Pinot (Ay Vauzelle Terme, Verzenay and Dizy). The 2000 Brut Millesime shows tons of depth. Clean, mineral notes round out the gorgeous finish. Slightly advanced aromas and flavors typical of the vintage suggest this won’t be terribly long lived. That said, it is an excellent choice for readers looking for a 2000 that shows early signs of maturity. Hazelnuts, berries, flowers and smoke are some of the nuances that linger on the powerful finish. This bottle was disgorged in Q4 2009. Dosage was 2.5 grams per liter. (a 50/50 blend of pinot noir and chardonnay; disgorged fourth quarter, 2009) Bright gold. Complex, smoky scents of dried pear, tangerine, honey and buttery brioche. Supple and broad on entry, then more taut in the middle, offering juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors and hints of smoke and dried fig. Ready to drink but this also has the energy to age. Finishes gently chewy, smoky and very long. This got a low dosage of 2.5 g/l.

Dense and grown up on the nose – there is real interest here! A bit of oak influence that borders on sour cooking apples but I’m sure it’s intentional. Very dry, dense finish. A real statement of a wine. Maybe best with food? Very intense and full of wild life. (JR)
