Deep blackish ruby. Pale rim. Gentle, evolved nose reminiscent of dunked digestive biscuits. Spicy top note. Mouth-filling and lovely to drink now. Long and flattering. Gentle. Not the attack of the wines of the Bruno Borie era. Tiny hint of brett? On the way down. (JR)
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot. 18 months in French oak (66% new). Early summer blow hot and cold but August and September were 'perfect' apparently. More-intense dark crimson than the 2001. More-intense nose than the 2001 too, with some redcurrant fruit. Rich, sweet start with somewhat marked acidity – still reasonably youthful with tannins in evidence. Really ambitious but I’d keep it or serve with chewy food. Long, slightly dusty finish. (JR)
