The 2003 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Gaudichots has a much deeper and more youthful color compared to the 2002. The nose is glossy and opulent with touches of shoe polish infusing the cassis and raspberry fruit, hints of spice developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins. There is good substance here with thick tannins around a sweet core of glossy fruit. I suspect it will benefit from another couple of year’s bottle age, something I would not have predicted before tasting it. This is a respectable Vosne-Romanee for the vintage. Drink 2015-2025+.

Saturated ruby-red. Aromas of raspberry liqueur, coffee and damp earth; reminded me of a California pinot. Then suave on entry and silky in the middle, with a concentrated flavor of raspberry jam. Superripe but less heavy and evolved than the nose suggests, and more refined and lively than the Saint-Georges and Petits Monts. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry. Drink this with full-flavored beef in one or two years, Forey advises.
Bright ruby-red. Black cherry, licorice and toasty, chocolatey oak on the nose. Sweet, silky and lush, with a strong torrefaction character in the mouth. With aeration, this showed an exotic note of mango. A bit overwhelmed by new oak, and not especially typical of the vineyard.
