Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2021-2035, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2021

The 2005 La Parde de Haut-Bailly is an eye-opening wine. Rich, deep and expansive, La Parde gives many top cuvées a run for their money in 2005. It is a wine of unreal complexity and pedigree. Time in the glass brings out layers of dark fruit, gravel, smoke, cured meats, licorice and scorched earth. Readers lucky enough to own it are in for a treat. For those who are shopping, the 2005 La Parde is a tremendous value in today's world. What a knock-out!

The 2005 La Parde de Haut-Bailly, a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, has a rich and intense bouquet with vibrant black cherry and raspberry coulis aromas, quite "gutsy" with a subtle marine influence developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, structured and foursquare, masculine like the 2000, but I sensed some rigidity toward the slightly metallic finish whereas the 2000 La Parde had more flow. It is still fresh in the mouth, yet the 2000 now has greater elegance and detail. Tasted March 2017.

57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Glowing crimson. Rather muted nose. Strong, very firm, concentrated on the palate. Lots to chew on. Sandy tannins in abundance. Then a bit of alcohol on the end. Far from charming! Pretty dry on the end still with some fresh inky fruit on the palate. Will tannins always dominate? Excellent vigour. (JR)

The second wine of Haut-Bailly, the 2005 La Parde is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. It offers a beautifully floral, elegant, earthy nose, with plenty of blue and black fruits, medium body, silky-smooth tannins, and excellent to outstanding concentration. This is a beautiful second wine to drink now and over the next 10-15 years.
